There are very few board games that I have the patience to play. Too many games require
hours upon hours of my precious time! So when my friend Joseph from Binary Cocoa
approached me with Straight 4, I was definitely skeptical…but my skepticism was short-lived.
THIS game is not too long, instructions are simple, yet it contains just the right amount of
complexity to keep you playing over and over again.
The game plays like this; Each player picks a set of four green or white marbles. Decide who
goes first. Then, take turns placing their marble pieces on the game mat in an attempt to have
their 4 pieces in a straight line. If, after initial placement no one is winning, each player takes
turns moving their pieces along any lines. THIS is where it gets interesting. Each player must
balance their offense and defense – trying to get their 4 in a row, while attempting to stop/block
their opponent from doing the same first. Whoever can place their four pieces in a row along the
lines of the lines of the game mat, wins!
I can’t really compare Straight 4 to one particular game, but I have described it to my friends as
a combination between chess, checkers and Connect Four…but maybe a bit more portable
given the sleek packaging. It’s a one-on-one game that is so simple, and yet it requires strategy
and forethought to win. It’s seriously addicting and I definitely recommend it! If you are
